How to Configure DNS for Your Domain
6 min ยท Step-by-step guide to pointing your domain to hosting with A, CNAME, and MX records.
Pointing your domain to Brahm Byte hosting or a third-party app requires correct DNS records. This guide covers the essentials for go-live and email.
A Record
Point your root domain (@) to your hosting server IP address. TTL 3600 is recommended for most sites; lower TTL before migrations.
CNAME
Use CNAME for www or subdomains pointing to your primary hostname or CDN endpoint. Avoid CNAME on root if your DNS provider requires ALIAS/ANAME.
MX Records
Configure mail exchange records if using custom email on your domain. Priority 10/20 pairs are common for primary and backup mail servers.
Propagation
DNS changes may take up to 48 hours globally; most updates visible within 1โ4 hours.
